I have photo streaming so whenever i take a photo on my phone it automatically uploads to my mac book air

Plug your phone into your Mac Book Air, open iphoto (it should open automatically) and select 'import Photos'.
IF that doesn't work (which it should), keep phone plugged into laptop and open iTunes. Inna app. On left hand side, select iPhone- photos- and copy into iPhoto.
